Across Musical Borders

Sunday, May 20, 2007 at 3 P.M.
Highland Park Community House
1991 Sheridan Road, Highland Park

Our May program features two works by Shulamit Ran, 1991 Pulitzer Prize winner and former Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Lyric opera of Chicago composer-in-residence. Ms. Ran will speak about her inspiration for composing East Wind for flute solo and Soliloquy for piano trio. Also featured is 19th-century Russian composer Alexander Borodin's lyrical String Quartet in D, with beautiful melodies audience members will recognize. Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos' fantastic Jet Whistle for flute and cello is a tour de force, and on the lighter side, Gershwin's Five Songs arranged for string quartet will charm listeners with its memorable tunes.

Concert sponsored by Northern Trust Bank of Highland Park.
