Meet the Pilgrim Chamber Players


Carol Honigberg, piano, artistic director.

Carol Honigberg enjoys an international reputation as a concert pianist, appearing as soloist and as chamber musician throughout the United States and Europe. Recent performances with orchestra include Beethoven’s Triple Concerto; the Two Piano Concerto by Poulenc; and Four Seasons Greetings by Joanna Bruzdowicz. She gave her New York recital debut in Alice Tully Hall of Lincoln Center. She has appeared as soloist with the Grant Park Orchestra in Chicago and appears regularly on programs live on radio WFMT. She has recently participated in summer festivals in Ceret, France and Sun Valley, Idaho; performed on the Chopin Festival in Washington, DC and participated in the Chamber Music series from the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. Carol Honigberg has recorded the Barber Piano Concerto and Piano Sonata for Musical Heritage Society; Rhapsody in Blue for Solo Piano for Pavane Records in Belgian; and the Beethoven Sonatas and Variations for Cello and Piano and Chopin Music for Cello and Piano with cellist Steven Honigberg on the Albany label. She also performs on the series Darkness & Light, Volumes 1-4, music from the US Holocaust Memorial Museum. She recently recorded for Albany records, Chamber Music by Donald Draganski for Winds and Piano, performed by the Pilgrim Chamber Players, of which she is Artistic Director. Carol Honigberg is a former faculty member of Roosevelt University in Chicago and presently teaches at the Lake Forest Symphony Music School. She received her Masters of Music degree from Northwestern University. Her teachers have included Rudolph Ganz, Gui Mombaerts and in France with Marguerite Long.
 

Anita Rieder, flute.

Anita Rieder performs extensively on modern and historical flutes. She earned her DM degree in flute performance at Northwestern University and MM degree at Indiana University where she was awarded the Performer’s Certificate. She was a Fulbright Scholar in London, has written articles for professional journals and recently edited the first published score of Quantz’s Double Flute Concerto in G (Alry Press). She is Principal Flute of the Lake Forest Symphony and of the Chicagoland Pops Orchestra in its inaugural season at the Rosemont Theatre.

She has played with the Joffrey Ballet and is frequently an extra with the Chicago Symhony Orchestra, Lyric Opera, Chicago Opera Theatre, Grant Park Symphony and Milwaukee Symphony. Anita also performs with the Kithara Trio and Lydia Trio at Wheaton College where she is Guest Instructor of Flute. She is featured on recordings on the Cedille and Ars Antigua labels. She has won numerous awards, including the National Flute Association Baroque Artist Competition, the Musicians Club of Women Farwell award, and the Chicago Union League Civic and Arts award. Anita lives in Skokie with her husband Bob and daughters, Gillian and Nathalie.
 

Don Draganski, composer in residence.

Don Draganski received a bachelor’s degree in Music from DePaul University, where he studied bassoon with Wilbur Simpson and composition with the late Alexander Tcherepnin.  He received his master’s degree in Library Science and worked as head Music Librarian for Roosevelt University from 1973 to 1999.  His compositions include works in all forms, with special emphasis on chamber music.  Draganski’s music has been performed at the Aspen Music Festival, over Armed Forces Radio in Europe, and under the auspices of the International Society of Contemporary Music (ISCM).  A recording of the song cycle The Bestiary for flue and soprano is available on the Orion label, and his Heart’s Desire for contrabassoon and piano is available on the Crystal label.  His choral cantata The Geometry of Music was commissioned by the North Shore Choral Society on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, and his Overture and Fanfares was performed by the Evanston Symphony Orchestra to marked its jubilee year in 1999.  He has also written commissioned works for the Foundation of Baroque Music in Saratoga, New York, and was a prizewinner in the International Alienor Competition with his harpsichord suite Fro Amici.  Draganski performs regularly with the Evanston and Skokie Valley Symphony orchestras.
